Climate

Thailand boasts a warm, always-sunny climate that varies minimally throughout the year, making it the perfect place to visit year round. The nation experiences two distinct seasons – a wet season between June to October, and a dry season between November to March. Generally speaking, most tourists prefer to visit during the dry season, when the weather is clearer, the humidity is lower and the temperature is perfect for exploring. However, the dry season is also peak tourism season, and prices for accommodation, flights and tourism are likely to be higher. To avoid the crowds, take advantage of cheaper prices and still enjoy your time in Thailand, we recommend visiting during the rainy season.

Capital Cities

Located in the central part of the country along the Chao Phraya River, Thailand’s Capital City Bangkok is bustling metropolis, melding vibrant street life and modern skyscrapers for one unique, incredible city. Home to over 10 million people, Bangkok welcomes over 25.7 million people each year for business or holiday travel, forging new business opportunities and marvelling at the city’s dozens of ornate temples. For those looking to visit the city, the best time to travel is just before Christmas, in November and early December – this is when the rainy season is passing but the crowds won’t have yet hit their peak, and you can enjoy the beauty of the city without the throng of people.

LOCAL KNOWLEDGE

Thailand is a hugely popular destination to visit for singles, couples and families, and for good reason! It’s sunny, close to Australia and provides plenty of opportunities to relax or explore, as well as the chance to immerse yourself in the local culture. Thailand is highly recommended as a travel destination, and here are a few local tips and tricks to make your experience even better:

  • Learn Basic Buddhist Principles – 95% of Thais are Buddhist, and the religion has weaved itself into the very nature of the city – so much so that we recommend brushing up on some of the more common Buddhist Principles before you go. This includes removing footwear before entering any Buddhist structure, avoiding touching Buddha statues on the head, giving way to monks and wearing clothing that covers your shoulders, upper arms and upper legs as a sign of respect for the religion and nation.
  • Get Travel Insurance – While this may seem obvious, one of the biggest issues that people run into while visiting Thailand is illness. There are a few things to be aware of when visiting this nation – avoid drinking tap water, wash your hands before eating, and be cautious of ice, unwashed or unpeeled fruit, and uncooked vegetables. The mosquitos also carry a real risk in Thailand, so bring bug spray or a mosquito net with you.
  • Carry ID When Commuting – Scooters and motorcycles are one of the most popular ways to get around Thailand for their affordability and ease, but be aware, you do need ID to ride them, and you may be asked by the local authorities! Always ensure you’re carrying your passport or a copy of the ID pages when commuting and check to ensure your ride is insured in case you have an accident.
  • Be Wary of Solicitation – Thailand is well-known for its adult culture, and the culture may find you whether you like it or not. Whether you’re travelling on your own or with a friend, be prepared with a firm refusal if you get solicited, and be aware that some bars, restaurants and karaoke venues may be fronts for adult work. If you’re unsure, watch for red or pink strip lights, lots of foreign male customers and staff with skimpier outfits.
